I can't decide if it was a draw or a narrow Edwards victory quite yet, but either way it is a win for Kerry. Edwards certainly didn't lose and Cheney didn't do Bush any favors, so this won't slow down any Kerry's momentum from his debate with Bush (whose name was suspiciously missing from this debate).
A CBS poll of uncommited voters showing 41% to 29% say Edwards won the debate. ABC had Cheney with a narrow victory, but actually losing support as far as who people said they would vote for. Media response seems to be mixed, but this may change with this voter response as the Kerry camp and us are working overtime to get the message out that Edwards won this debate.
Even though Cheney defended himself a lot better than Bush, Edwards still took him to task on many things, hammered home Kerry's message, and definitely won on the likeablility factor. The only mistakes Edwards made was not going after Cheney on more (but there is so much!) and saying "John Kerry" when it wasn't allowed apparently. Cheney, on the other hand, actually didn't even answer a couple of questions and was essentially a perennial liar. He has already been caught in two major lies. One was that Cheney never said there was a link between Iraq and 9/11 even though on numerous occasions Cheney has done so, usually when he cited the possibility that Mohamed Atta, one of the 9/11 hijackers, met with an Iraqi official -- even after that theory was largely discredited. Fellow blog DailyKos also points out he lied when he said he has never met John Edwards before!
And on a funny note, Cheney got the address wrong and sent viewers to factcheck.com - an anti-Bush site from George Soros!
