Bruce Reed wrote a very good article on Slate about what the Democrats need to do to win again. While Christian conservatives may have tipped the scales in places like Ohio, Iowa, New Mexico, etc. we have a more fundamental problem tham that. We lost ground across the board. And I agree the problem is not our stances, but how we frame them. We must start connecting our positions with our values the way Republicans do with theirs. Tax reform must be about rewarding work, not punishing the rich. Healthcare reform must be about the immorality of the sick and injured not being able to get care. Defending trial lawyers must be about defending consumers. Protecting abortion rights must be about more than a woman's ownership of her body, but complex question of life. Our foreign policy must be more than anti-whatever the Republicans want. In fact, that goes for everything. We must offer Americans our vision of America. You know why that will work? Because our vision is theirs, they just don't get that feeling from us. And we don't have anyone to blame but ourselves in that respect. But now we know what to do. We just need to start doing it.
