Christmas Eve update

So no update yesterday... too much last-minute Christmas shopping to do. There will not be an update tomorrow, of course (insert bad joke of three wise men having to bring Jesus gifts tomorrow). But I'll give you a treat for today.

First up, in some good news for us Dems, Democrat Christine Gregoire expanded her lead over Republican Dino Rossi to 130 votes to win the race for Washington state governor in a recount seven weeks after the election.

This is great. the Social Security Administration was found to be promoting Bush's reform proposal
on its website. That reminds me of the Medicare prescription drug benefit ads that were dressed up as and shown as news stories. Isn't that the kind of propoganda work dictators have?

Meanwhile, the Bush administration is continuing to
oppose allowing cheap drugs from Canada to be imported into the U.S. Shouldn't this be a sign to conservatives that Republicans are more interested in taking care of business now than free-market ideas?

In more Bush shenanigans, he has decided to
renominate his judge picks that were opposed by Democrats (and some Republicans) in his first term. This would include people like Priscilla Owens of the Texas Supreme Court who had very questionable finances. What a way to bring people together, eh? That's a commitment to working with Democrats for ya...

Oh, and the French journalists held hostage for four months in Iraq said their captors told them they wanted President Bush to win re-election. Guess the terrorists really fear him...

Lastly, USA Today had a very interesting article about how the left v. right abortion debate is
overshadowing a serious child abuse epidemic. Is there more focus on the unborn in America than the born?

Speaking of, in the next column, I will analyze the issue of abortion in terms of the Democratic Party's position(s) and how to address it in the future.

In the meantime, I hope everyone has some good holidays.
