A majority of Americans now say the war in Iraq was not worth fighting, a view that has driven down the ratings of President Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, according to new polls.
Fifty-six percent of those questioned, a new high, said that the cost of the war outweighs the benefits and is not worth it. It marked a gain of seven percentage points from a poll conducted in July.
Fifty-seven percent said they disapprove of the way Bush is handling the situation in Iraq. Bush's approval rating on Iraq dropped to 42 percent, down from 60 percent a year ago. Fewer than half said they believe there has been significant progress toward restoring order in Iraq, down from 51 percent last summer. Also, 53 percent disapprove of the way Rumsfeld is handling his job, according to the survey. In fact, more than half of the poll respondents, 52 percent, said Rumsfeld should be replaced.
Separately, a new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll also found growing pessimism over Iraq. Nearly 60 percent said they disapprove of the way the United States was handling the situation in Iraq and 52 percent said Rumsfeld should resign.
On Iraq, 47 percent of Americans say the situation in the war-wracked country has worsened during the past year, while 20 percent say it has improved.
Most interestingly, the president's popularity has also fallen, from 55 percent in November to 49 percent now, according to the poll.
This makes Bush the first incumbent president to have an approval rating below 50 percent one month after winning re-election.
The ABC News/Washington Post poll actually found his approval rating to be 48%, below his disapproval rating of 49%!
This, of course, means that two or three percent of the populace that voted for Bush now disapprove of how he is handling his job. A little too late guys! Ditto on Iraq. Oh, but I'm sure these idiots would still say "But I just couldn't trust Kerry to protect us!"
Morons.

This just makes me so irritated at all those people who voted for Bush on the issue of terrorism. What does it take to make them realize that Iraq is this important? Them realizing they were wrong now does absolutely no good!
