According to the AP, "Nearly two-thirds of Americans want the government to play more of a role in the prices charged for prescription drugs, according to a new survey."
Two-thirds! Now there's a mandate!
"And most don't believe pharmaceutical company arguments that prescription drug prices are driven by research and development. Three-fourths in the poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation say the desire for profit is the biggest factor in prescription drug prices."
I bring this up, because for one, it points out how Americans really are much more liberal than conservative, especially on economic issues. And secondly, because it definitely shows that Americans don't support the Bush policies of not allowing the government to negotiate for lower prices nor allow Americans to buy cheaper, imported drugs from Canada. But hey, at least it will cost us more.

You know, it's not even that liberal to want some kind of control of prescription drug prices. If you ask the average person about it, they'd make a common sense weighing of the need of the companies to make a profit vs. the need of the American people to be able to afford these drugs, and they'd strike a balance that some price control or coercion is not unreasonable. But that's liberal compared to most cons, who think that every business should have an untrammeled right to rake in as much dough as they can, no matter the necessity of the product that they make and it's importance to American welfare.
