An optimistic approach to energy

(Thanks mom)

In this article, the author talks about the ideas of Amory Lovins , who has a rather optimistic outlook on the future of energy conservation. That doesn't mean that it's not possible; evidently he has a lot of research to back him up. Basically he says that with an expenditure of only 180 billion, we can be off oil completely by 2050. Seems like an outrageous claim, but this guy is the real thing, so give him some credit. Also, he's put together a strategy that will not only increase energy-efficiency overall, but make money.

With this and previous articles, it seems like we have the real possibility of decreasing our energy usage and oil dependence without resorting to extreme measures like solar power and hydrogen fuel-cells. There does seem to be a realistic way of moving out of our energy dependency without destroying our society and it seems that we just need to agree to start doing it. (And those people are going to have to give up their SUVs and trucks no matter what)

Yeah, Willie Nelson is a big fan of it, so how could it not be good?

The only argument against it that I've seen is that we can't make enough to meet total diesel demand. But that's from those people who think that the energy crisis has to be met with one solution instead of several. I was reading another article and Willie said the tailpipe smells like french fries. Truckers also reported getting more milage from a 80/20 (diesel/bio) split mixture and more power as well. I have to admit, it sounds like a real winner of an idea. Plus which the price will never be dependent on foreign factors.

Well, put that way it just seems awesome. I really like this idea. So, who has a plan for making bio-diesel the standard diesel fuel?

Daniel, I'm going to take and repost this in the newer post, since that's a better spot for it.
