I would say that this is an example that shows that yet again, children can be knowledgable and care about issues around them. There are too many adults who discount their voices because they simply assume children can't think for themselves (which, if they don't, I would say is a failing of adults to teach them). I'd like to say that this parrallels the student walkouts recently. Too many people said that it was just a bunch of kids skipping school. People, give the kids some credit, please.
The thing is, kids about the age of the kids in this story haven't learned how to rationalize things like adults yet. And they're young enough to still have compassion for odd things like animals, sick people, and trees. It's not really that I think people should grow up and be innocent and naive like children; it's just that I think sometimes kids are the ones who have their priorities straight, and not the grown ups.
