France shoots Brazil down, is on to semi-finals

Guess Xanthippas is busy tonight, so I'm putting it up here.

Brazil lost 1-0 to France tonight, a surprising loss given that they were favorites to win, have a roster full of world-class players, and have an extremely good World Cup record for a damn good reason. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch this game, but evidently Ronaldo and Ronaldinho couldn't pull anything together whereas Zidane managed to score the only goal of the match.

Next, Germany takes on Italy (on Tuesday), and on Wednesday France takes on Portugal. Those both look to be good games and will definitely make for an exciting round before the Finals. And either way, as CBS says, "this is the first all-European final four since 1982 in Spain." Guess they still have good soccer over there, eh?

Nat-Wu...soccer blogging?? Way to stay on top of things! Unfortunately I was busy, and it wasn't from watching soccer (actually it was from watching "An Inconvenient Truth", but we'll get to that). I did get to see the last 5 minutes of the Brazil-France game, and was stunned to find that Brazil was down 1-0. I read that, amazingly, Brazil was able to garner only one shot on goal. One!

I personally was hoping for an Argentina-Brazil final full of magical and attacking soccer. That's what I get for hoping for anything.

A South American WC Final? Would have been interesting.
