New Focus on Counter-Insurgency in Iraq

You can count this among the umpteen lessons learned too late in Iraq. And even if we know better, can we carry it out?

The current military leadership in Iraq has already embraced many of the ideas in the doctrine. But some military experts question whether the Army and the Marines have sufficient troops to carry out the doctrine effectively while also preparing for other threats.

Here's the long and short of it in Iraq. Not enough troops. Not enough troops. Not enough troops. And no political will power to send more troops.

That's all you need to know.

Well, good going guys. At least you got around to preparing for this war while you're fighting it, even if it is too late.

Not going to happen. Man, if they even tried that, how many riots would there be? Most people don't support the war, a growing number are calling for withdrawal, and with the lessons of Vietnam, the draft is political anathema.
