UTA Mavs to the NCAA Tourney

I have to shill for my alma mater here for a moment. On Friday, the UT-Arlington Men's basketball team will appear in their first ever NCAA tournament, facing off against University of Memphis Tigers. They made the tournament in surprising fashion, upsetting Southland Conference leader Stephen F. Austin to make the Southland Conference tournament, then knocking off the number 2, number 3 and number 5 seed to win the tournament and secure a birth in the NCAA tourney (and a shoe deal with Nike, to boot.) Memphis is ranked #1 in the Tournament's South, and #3 overall in the nation, so the Mavs' personal March Madness is likely to be short despite some good players and some impressive performances. But when you're a little fish swimming in a big pond for the first time, who cares how long you get to stay? The fun is in getting there at all.

If you'd like to see it, the game is on local KTVT, channel 11, start time of 8:55.

I too am a UTA graduate and very proud to see them at the NCAA tournament. I hope the added attention helps to boost the sports and university programs at UTA.

Go Mavs! (the OG Mavs in Dallas)
