Gramophone, the leading magazine of classical music, polled various classical music critics on who they judged the world's best symphony orchestras. Seven American orchestras were selected, out of a list of twenty, an accomplishment I think our nation should be justifiably proud of given that Europe is the birthplace of classical music.
Incidentally, orchestras are now catching up to the internet age. The Berlin Philharmonic is now streaming their live concerts online, which you can watch for a relatively small fee.
