U.S. Navy Boarding Iranian Vessals?

Via Glenn Greenwald, were U.S. ships stopping and boarding Iranian ships suspected of carrying weapons to Hamas in Gaza? Why are our ships doing the work of the Israeli navy in the Gulf? I don't know...why does a man, having stepped in dog shit, rub his foot in it rather than pull his shoe out and wipe it off? Either makes as much sense.
