Musical High Notes

A couple of things worth noting:

1. The Dallas Observer has a story on indie folk masters the Great Lake Swimmers. Their music is populated with references to things that folk singers should be singing about like mountains and bears and lakes (only in this case, Canadian mountains and bears and lakes.) "Moving Pictures, Silent Films" is my all time favorite song by the band. They're playing tomorrow in Denton, and you should check them out if you'd like a nice quiet evening of lovely music.

2. I'm very excited about this new collaboration coming out between Danger Mouse (probably most known for his work as one half of Gnarls Barkley) and Sparklehorse. Danger Mouse produced some of the songs from Sparklehorse's last album "Dreamt For Light Years..." so I'm not exactly sure how this collaboration will differ, though that seems to be the point. But check out the "guest stars" on the CD: Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, James Mercer of The Shins, Iggy Pop, Suzanne Vega, The Flaming Lips...Vic Chesnutt? Nina Persson from The Cardigans? And...David Lynch? I have no idea where all that is going, but it should be interesting.
