News Round-Up

Tens of thousands protest Bush and the RNC in New York. As Delay looks to say low-key at convention, moderate Republicans lash out at Bush over gay rights and far-right policies. Speaking of, the Republican Party is violating the US military’s rules on participation in party politics by active duty military. Meanwhile, a U.S. soldier expected to plead guilty to charges of abusing Iraqi prisoners told a German magazine he deeply regretted his actions but said the abuses were encouraged by military intelligence services. Also, as voting there is under the microscope again, a Florida judge requires manual recounts. And an investigation over a Pentagon aide who gave secrets to Israel was part over a broader operation by the FBI and may hurt Rumsfeld.
