GOP Pushes Rule Change to Protect DeLay's Post

House Republicans proposed changing their rules last night to allow members indicted by state grand juries to remain in a leadership post, a move that would benefit Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) in case he is charged by a Texas grand jury that has indicted three of his political associates, according to GOP leaders.

Not much I need to say about this. The Republicans love power, and they care more about protecting their own than they do about what is right. How anyone can see people like Tom Delay and other Republicans like him for anything other than what they are is beyond me. But hey, they voted for him, they deserve him.

Some Republicans in the Senate also want to change the fillibuster rule so they would no longer have to worry about Democratic challenges to judicial appointees, etc. Hopefully, even Republicans can see the short-sightedness of such an action. They won't be the majority forever, and they would rue the day they did this when we get back in power. Although, the Republicans are ignoring their religious base again, since it looks like Arlen Specter will get to be chairman of the judiciary committee. Perhaps ending the fillibuster rule would be a way to appease them? As we've seen, the Republicans are hardly above such absurdity.
