Call to Arms in Afghanistan

Things in Afghanistan appear to be getting hotter:

Al-Qaeda's second-in-command urged Afghans in a new videotaped message to rise up against U.S troops stationed in their country, a day after American officials warned that clashes with Taliban forces in remote border areas could get worse.

U.S. military officials said Thursday morning that four soldiers were killed and a fifth was injured Wednesday in clashes with insurgents in the northeastern part of the country, a region near the border with Pakistan where attacks against foreign troops and Afghan security forces have been on the rise.

How bad can Afghanistan get? Nothing like Iraq of course, as Afghanistan as a smaller, more rural country. Can it get worse? Without a doubt.

Main stream media seems to be picking up this story a little more, now. Instead of just NPR, I saw an article on Yahoo news earlier. Afghanistan was where we could have done some real good, but at this point who knows? We'd have to make a real investment in it (for the first time, I might add). Hopefully it's not lost yet and people will get on their politician's backs to get something done.
