To deny that something profound is going on, you must either have an agenda, or be someone who cannot be reasoned with. The more we study this, the more evidence we find that the Earth is indeed warmer than it has been in quite some time, and that we are responsible for some of if not all of that increase in warmth. It's long past time to be doing something about it, but most of our effort still seems to be concentrated in simply getting people to believe it's true. The Earth is running a slight fever from greenhouse gases, after enjoying relatively stable temperatures for 2,000 years. The National Academy of Sciences, after reconstructing global average surface temperatures for the past two millennia, said Thursday the data are "additional supporting evidence ...that human activities are responsible for much of the recent warming."
Other new research showed that global warming produced about half of the extra hurricane-fueled warmth in the North Atlantic in 2005, and natural cycles were a minor factor, according to Kevin Trenberth and Dennis Shea of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, a research lab sponsored by the National Science Foundation and universities.

Well, I think a lot of people have accepted the idea that it is happening, but the implications of it are beyond them. Not because people are stupid, but because people with agendas keep fighting over the meaning of global warming. I mean, most people on either side of the issue haven't espoused a balanced approach like we have here on TWM, so of course average Joe isn't going to listen to somebody who's saying something he doesn't want to hear. What needs to happen is that we need to stop focusing on the problem and focus on the solution. If you quit arguing over whether it's occuring or not, but just propose solutions, you'll get more folk listening.
