FBI Abuse of Secret Records Requests

Whether you are a liberal or conservative, you must accept that you cannot trust the government to act in secret, without any kind of accountability for its actions. The Founders knew this, and we shouldn't have to be re-learning this lesson.

Is anyone surprised?

Sadly, no. Power utilized in secret will always be abused. It's the reason the Founders established our systems of checks and balances, so that once branch could always force the other to be more transparent about their actions. Unfortunately, when you have a Congress that saw fit to prostitute itself to the leader of it's party in the White House, and a judiciary that seems to think the state secrets doctrine covers anything embarassing, and that any question regarding war powers is a "political question", the only remedy is to have opposite parties controlling the White House and Congress.
