UTA Mavericks Kick Off Season

Building on their first ever appearance in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, the UTA Mavericks begin the 2008-2009 season as favorites to win the Southland conference. The Mavs are hoping to ride the backcourt trio of Brandon Long, Marquez Haynes and Rog'er Guignard, as well as the play of Anthony Vereen, MVP of this year's Southland Conference Tournament. They started out in fine fashion on Sunday, thumping Hardin-Simmons in the season opener 84-64. They play again tonight, taking on Ft. Worth's Texas Wesleyan at home.
