On Bush's and Kerry's character

Salon writes about how a widow of a Bush family confidant says her husband gave the future president an Alabama Senate campaign job as a favor to his worried father. Did they see him do any National Guard service? "Good lord, no."

Also, a man whose name is on the Swiftboat letter condemning Kerry says his name was used without permission. Makes you wonder how many of those 200 or so names were also used without permission.

Tonight, Bush will give his acceptance speech. I think this is the first convention in history where the incumbent's party has spent more time bashing the challenger than praising the incumbent's accomplishments. Of course, that's because Bush has none. The only way he can win is by making Kerry seems unelectable. It's funny, for all that has been said about Democrats hating Bush more than liking Kerry, Republicans seem to fear Kerry more than they love Bush. Slate analyzes this, the Republicans attacking others' patriotism, and the Kerry lies in these articles:

I don't know if I should be, but I was surprised that these Swift Boat guys would lie about that. I guess it's par for the course though; they're sure as hell not telling the truth about Kerry.
