Was George Bush Right About Freedom and Democracy?

The unthinkable question! Fred Kaplan at Slate analyzes this and why the situation is just not what conservatives describe. I know I haven't really been doing much analysis myself, lately, but I like to let things speak for themselves when I think they do. I find redundacy on blogs to be too common and it's quite annoying. Anyway, it's an interesting read.

It's certainly true that nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and free elections are in many cases only the beginning. It is simple-minded for conservatives to try to claim all the credit for this, as it is for liberals to try to give Bush no credit for it. But what appears to be coming up roses now may not be so rosy in the future; after all, Yugoslavia was freed as well from communist repression, and look how that turned out.
