War with the Press

I'm pretty sure that in the aftermath of the election, someone is going to look back and decide that the McCain camp's decision to go to war with the press was a serious miscalculation. It's clear that McCain thinks he can't win on the issues alone (and he can't, with numbers like these and the economy absolutely dominating the headlines) but do they really think this sort of thing is going to win them the election?
